U9 (birth year 2011) WSA Soccer for Fall 2019. WSA is announcing exciting programming updates for the U9 age group.  These updates will take effect in the Fall 2019 season for all players born in 2011. Registration is now open.

Fall 2019 Soccer Options for 2011 Players

U9 Travel Development Program Summary


  • For all players born in 2011 for Fall 2019 and Spring 2020 seasons (single season sign up)
  • U9 Travel Development encompasses, improves and expands on prior U9 Travel program
  • Age appropriate, development-focused program aligned with US Soccer and US Youth Soccer guidelines
  • Facilitates smooth transition to next soccer experience for young players by de-emphasizing tryouts in favor of pre program assessments
  • Introduces and focuses on essential individual skills in training, paired with introduction to game concepts and emphasis on positive character development, lead by professional coaches
  • Balanced teams in developmentally appropriate leagues, roster movement and league adjustments between seasons to optimize experience and growth
  • Create flexibility and opportunity for players to participate season to season (vs. prior full year commitment) as they grow and explore various interests
  • Use the Fall and Spring seasons worth of observations to better inform eventual ability-based teams in their future years

Pre Program Assessments / Registration Required


  • Players are required to register for and participate in pre program assessments
  • Used to assess entering abilities and to facilitate formation of balanced teams
  • Deadline to register is May 24, 2019, no walk ups allowed
  • Assessments are week of June 3rd, two 75 minute sessions [schedule here]

Program Offering


  • Fall and Spring on single season basis
  • ~9-10 weeks per season
  • One professional head coach assigned per team (players grouped into 3 - 5 balanced teams)
  • Two training sessions per week
  • 90 minutes per session
  • One age group-based session (all teams same day/time/location with team of coaches) focused on individual technical skills
  • One team-based session reinforcing technical and introducing game tactics with team’s head coach

  • All practices will have a “Parent on Duty” or POD per team
  • One game per week / ~8-10 game season
  • All games coached by the team’s assigned professional coach
  • 50% of games home (in Wilton) / 50% away (against neighboring town teams across Fairfield County)
  • Each team will have a volunteer parent Manager to coordinate
  • Opening weekend WSA Jamboree and/or one other Tournament in Fall season (targeting Columbus Day)
  • Potential add on options (separate pricing/registration)
    • Winter clinics
    • Spring Jamboree/tournament


  • Goal to accommodate all players within constraints of available coaches and fields
  • Targeting 36 - 48 players per gender in the program (3 - 4 teams per gender), but will depend on registration #s
  • May institute a cap on registrations depending on demand/interest
  • Teams will be balanced in nature based on observations of pre program assessments and to emphasize and match soccer development guidelines and support positive culture among teams and all
  • WSA has discretion over number of teams
  • WSA will place teams in appropriate leagues for game play
  • Most teams will play on Sundays, some could play on Saturdays due to league availability (your player’s games would be all on either Saturday or Sunday)
  • If you prefer Saturday games or less competitive environment for your player, you may let us know.  We cannot guarantee we can accommodate this request.
  • Number of teams in Fall season may be different from number of teams in Spring (single season sign up)
  • Composition of teams will be different in Spring season from Fall season due to single season sign up and re-balancing of teams

Uniforms & Equipment

  • Uniforms will be purchased directly through our vendor partner, Wilton Soccer & Rugby, for approximately $100, not included in program price
  • Uniform kit will include a game shirt(s), practice shirt, shorts and socks
  • Footwear – soccer appropriate cleats are required for each player
  • No jewelry during any games or practice
  • Inflated soccer ball - size 4
  • Water

Fall 2019 U9 Travel Development Program

Program Cost: $525.

Program Overview:

  • Fall season program
  • 1 (90 minute) age group based practice per week
  • 1 (90 minute) team practices per week 
  • 8-9 League Games 
  • 1 one day Jamboree for the age group 
  • 1 paid Tournament per year (Columbus Day)
  • SWD League entry fees (Fall)

Schedule of Payments:

$575 payable upon acceptance of roster spot

Refund Policy (subject to review, will be finalized prior to registration):

  • In order for us to organize our teams and meet state and league registration deadlines it is necessary for us to follow this refund policy without exception. 
  • Refunds will be permitted if we are notified of the cancellation by the following dates:

Fall Season:

  • Before August 1st, $250 refund
  • After August 1st, no refunds
