U9 (birth year 2011) WSA Soccer for Fall 2019 & Spring 2020. WSA is announcing exciting programming updates for the U9 age group.  These updates will take effect in the Fall 2019 season for all players born in 2011. Registration is now open.

Spring 2020 Soccer Options for 2011 Players

U9 Travel Development Program

Open to all 2nd graders, and also 3rd graders that were born 2011

Can play U9 Travel Development as primary program and add 2nd/3rd Grade intramural games for modest incremental fee ($40) 


U9 Travel Development Program Summary

For all players born in 2011 for Spring 2020 season (single season sign up)

  • U9 Travel Development encompasses, improves and expands on prior U9 Travel program
  • Age appropriate, development-focused program aligned with US Soccer and US Youth Soccer guidelines 
  • Facilitates or continues smooth transition to next soccer experience for young players 
  • Introduces and focuses on essential individual skills in training, paired with an introduction to game concepts and emphasis on positive character development, lead by professional coaches
  • Balanced teams in developmentally appropriate leagues, roster movement and league adjustments between seasons to optimize experience and growth 
  • Provides flexibility and opportunity for players to participate from season to season as they grow and explore various interests
  • Player observations to be used to better inform ability-based teams for future seasons

  • Pre Program Assessments / Registration
  • Players new to the program may be asked to participate in a pre program assessment to assist in balancing teams 
  • Players who participated in Fall 2019 need not participate in another assessment 
  • Deadline to register for the programs is February 15

Program Offering

  • Single season sign up
  • ~8-10 weeks per season
  • One professional head coach assigned per team (players grouped into balanced teams of up to 12 players each)
  • Two training sessions per week 
  • 90 minutes per session
  • One age group-based session (all teams same day/time/location with team of coaches) focused on individual technical skills
  • One team-based session reinforcing technical and introducing game tactics with team’s head coach 
  • Schedule to be published soon!
  • All practices will have a “Parent on Duty” or POD per team
  • One game per week / ~6-8 game season
  • All games coached by the team’s assigned professional coach 
  • Each team will have a volunteer parent Manager to coordinate schedule 
  • One WSA Jamboree (half day round robin of games)

Teams 

  • Estimated 2-3 teams per gender in Spring 2020 but will depend on registration #s

  • WSA may cap number of participants to ensure complete teams, so sign up soon
  • WSA will place teams in appropriate leagues for game play
  • Most teams will play on Sundays, some could play on Saturdays due to league availability (your player’s games would be all on either Saturday or Sunday)
  • Composition of teams will be different in Spring season from Fall season

Uniforms & Equipment

  • Uniforms for Spring 2020 season will be same as Fall 2019 season 
  • Uniforms can be purchased directly through our vendor partner, Wilton Soccer & Rugby, for approximately $100, not included in program price
  • Uniform kit will include a game shirt(s), practice shirt, shorts and socks
  • Footwear – soccer appropriate cleats are required for each player 
  • SHIN GUARDS. IF YOUR CHILD HAS NO SHIN GUARDS THEY WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PLAY. 
  • No jewelry during any games or practice
  • Inflated soccer ball - size 4
  • Water

  • Prioritize soccer and attendance for benefit of self and team as much as possible
  • Have a great and positive attitude

Program Fees & Expenses


$575 per season per player (plus the uniform)
Covers cost of professional coaches for training and games, all CJSA and SWD league fees, one Jamboree, software for player assessments, and program’s share of WSA operating expenses such as field lining, administrative costs, insurance and more. 
Payment will be due when you accept your player’s place in the program in late Feb/early March
