During the spring we will be offering Goalkeeper training for players age U9-U14 who play, or are interested in playing this position and want to develop their skill set for this specialized position.
To be successful as a goalkeeper you need to be technically sound, there is not many parts to goalkeeping but what there is needs to be done to a high standard. Therefore training itself is very repetitive working on our basics constantly, some which may seem simple but building that muscle memory so our technique is efficient and clean come game time.
Therefore since we have limited places on this program it is important you only register if your child is serious about playing goalkeeper due to the mental requirement of working on our basics to improve as if not this will take a spot away from somebody else. If your child is unsure whether they would like to play goalkeeper, first try it in practice or games and upon making a decision they want to learn more you can register the following season.
The goalkeeper training will be provided by Coach Dave Nuttall who is a professional qualified goalkeeper coach and has worked at multiple levels with goalkeepers. Coach Dave acquired his goalkeeper coaching license back home in England whilst also working with and learning from the goalkeeper coaching staff at Professional Club Huddersfield Town’s Academy for their U16-U19 teams before moving to the US. Since moving to the US he has worked coaching goalkeepers across multiple levels from youth soccer to the collegiate level where he spent 4 years working as the Goalkeeper Coach for Iona College (D1) on the women’s side and is currently the Goalkeeper Coach for the men’s team at New Haven (D2).

The program put together by Coach Dave will run for 7 weeks working across multiple different aspects and topics of goalkeeping to help our young players learn, develop and excel in this specialized position. Although he will work on different topics across this time certain basics will be done in every session due to the importance of developing this technique to be efficient, clean and sharp. As mentioned above due to the needs of Goalkeeper training and developing these techniques, repetition is a part of goalkeeper training, however Coach Dave will try and deliver these techniques in different situations to keep training fresh and interesting for players to help maximize enjoyment for those who are serious about goalkeeping along with some fun games to finish each session and put these skills to test.
There will be a difference between the exercises for U9-U11 and U12+ due to the physical needs and demands of the players and games at those different ages.
